Time for a big fat Italian… wedding!

If you’ve found your Prince Charming, chosen your dress and decided who to invite and who not to invite to the reception (remember, the refusal rate will be low… would you say no to a trip to Italy?), all you need to do now is to find that unforgettable location in which to say “I do”.

Whether you fancy tying-the-knot in the country, on the beach, by a lake, in the mountains, on an island or in one of the world’s most famous art cities, Italy has any number of amazing hotels in which to make your dream wedding come true. Here are six of my favorites:

There’s nothing quite as romantic as an intimate rural wedding, especially when that intimate rural wedding takes place in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, in a beautifully restored farmhouse, surrounded by the gently rolling landscapes of Crete Senesi, in the province of Siena.

Rustic-chic bedrooms and suites, gorgeous in and outdoor dining venues, an irresistible infinity pool and scenery to die for, Podere Finerri has all the ingredients for a wedding with wow! factor.

An enchanting location for an unforgettable Italian wedding (and honeymoon!), the 17th century Palazzo Belmonte is one of the many treasures hidden within the walls of the sunny seaside town of Castellabate, the UNESCO world heritage site situated just south of the Amalfi Coast.

Weddings are celebrated on Palazzo Belmonte’s private beach and the hotel’s panoramic “Terrazza Belvedere”, from where breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast and the island of Capri can be seen.

Something special for your guests? Organize a picnic on the nearby island of Licosa or a nocturnal fishing trip with the local fishermen!

An old fashioned romance? Whisk your loved-one up into the mountains of Abruzzo and say “I do” in the tiny medieval village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio, in what has quickly become one of Italy’s finest “alberghi diffusi” or scattered hotels.

Guest accommodation in Sextantio is provided in simply furnished apartments in a cluster of ancient cottages.

The views of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park are truly spectacular – as is the cuisine served in Sextantio’s award-winning restaurant, supervised by the  Michelin-starred chef  Niko Romito.

Italians love an attention-grabbing wedding and, in general, the further south you go, the more glamorous getting married gets.

On the island of Ischia, just across the water from Naples – the undisputed  capital of the big fat Italian wedding – the 5 star Albergo della Regina Isabella is the ideal location in which to stage the kind of reception guaranteed to get heads turning and cameras clicking.

Occupying one of the most beautiful sites in Florence, the 5 star Villa La Vedetta boasts amazing views over the whole of the Tuscan capital.

I do – with a view: in warm weather, small-scale wedding ceremonies are performed on the panoramic terrace overlooking the Cathedral, Santa Croce and the river Arno.

Where to spend the first night of married life? The hotel’s massive Bellavista Suite has an inviting king size bed – and the best views in the house.

A truly unique setting for a wonderful water-edge wedding, Villa Crespi occupies a fantastically flamboyant 19th century folly, complete with Persian inspired columns, capitals and minaret, on the shores of Lake Orta in Piedmont.

A gourmet wedding reception? Run by the celebrity chef Antonino Cannavacciuolo, Villa Crespi’s restaurant, is more than worthy of its 2 Michelin stars.
